Derrick – Ghana

In late December 2016, our contact in Ghana introduced us to Derrick who had club hands. We referred this to our Medical Board and having consulted surgeons on the Mercy Ship (Africa Mercy) in Benin, we were able to transport Derrick and his mum to Benin.  He was operated on 20 January and is now recovering having had successful surgery. He had to stay on the Mercy Ship for 6 weeks as they have K-wires in place (for the bones to stay lined up). The ship has accommodation for him and his mum and provides food too. It has been great working with Mercy Ships again (Abi volunteered on board in 2002).
