Yelikha from Guinea
Yelikha is 17 year old girl from Conakry, the capital of Guinea (in West Africa). She was in a car accident a decade ago in which her jaw was broken. This healed incorrectly and left her with a locked jaw (ankylosis) unable to open her mouth to eat anything solid. As such she was very malnourished.
With the help of Dr Courtney at Sacré Coeur Centre Pédiatrique, the local charity ‘Hope Ignited’ and Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). Willing and Abel was able to co-ordinate transfer of Yelikha to Hope Medical Centre in the Eastern City of Nzao in Guinea, where surgeons Tony Giles and Jean Faya Yaradouno were able to successfully correct her jaw.
She is now eating and smiling and gaining weight back home : )
